I have had the 4 person version since 2006 and I love it. As mentioned the air flow isn't great but you can open the windows on the doors if you need to. It has never leaked for me and I take it on one to two BWCA trips each year. A bit heavy but its great against the elements.

Anyone have personal experience with these tents? Cabela's Alaskan Guide Model Geodesic Tent? I'm looking for a car camping tent where weight is not a concern. Found while internet searching. Cabela's carries two varieties in 3 sizes--4p, 6p, and 8p. I'm interested in the 4p or perhaps the 6p. One type has fiberglass poles while the other (considerably more expensive model known as the Instinct Model, aluminum. They have the bomb-proof qualities I desire in my tents, but I'm wondering specifically about air flow in summer months.

I have owned both the 4 and 6 person Cabela's Alaskan Guide tents. When properly staked and guyed out they are very stable in the wind and mine did not leak.
In my opinion, air flow is poor, set up and take down is time consuming and the hexagon shaped floor is inefficient. Geodesic designed tents can provide extra strength but there are pros and cons to consider. In general, 4 season tents are not ideal for use in warm conditions.

A similar tent (discontinued, though it can be found with some searching), Big Agnes Tensleep . A sturdy, tent with beefy poles and large vestibule and great ventilation. I picked up mine on a car camping trip when I woke up at Craters of the Moon campground and realized I was too old to change clothes in my backpacking tent.

A well made tent you can stand up in.
