My magic moment was last Thursday night (1st night of the trip) on Jack lake w/ my 9 yo daughter. We headed out to go fishing and saw and cow and calf moose so we went over and took pictures. Went over to a narrow channel and first pass we had a double. Next pass I got 1 and immediately cleaned them and brought the fillets back to camp to fry them up. Her top 2 "hopes" for the trip were a fish fry and to see her first moose :) After dinner we went back to the same spot and dropped the anchor........ 1 and 1/2 hours later we burned through 2 dozen leeches and the walleye tally was my daughter 14 and daddy 9. For about 20 minutes of it I sat back and just watched the joy and excitement on her face.

You ever have one of those "magic moments" fishing in the BWCA?
My wife and I had one on Lake 3 Friday night! It was our last night of the trip and we were kinda melancholy as we headed out for the evening bite. The wind was up but we figured we could still drift our honey holes and find some fish. So we tried a few spots but the wind made it hard to jig effectively and we couldn't get a nibble. So our last spot was a narrow channel kinda protected. The wind did help push us thru there nicely. Clouds were building to the south but we had time. Missed a couple bites on our first pass or two. Then the magic was on! Every drift thru would bring strikes. You couldn't bait the jig fast enough! My wife pulled 4 in a row as quick as you could drop it down, even scored double 19's. Before the storm pushed us off the lake.
what a great moment!

Nice! Always good to go home on high note. The last two years my son Calvin and I have gone out on a final night paddle just to take it all in and dump the days fish guts. Both years, a Bald Eagle came out of no where and watched us dump the guts. As we slowly paddled away, we watched as the eagles hopped from tree to tree until they finally dropped onto the pile. Can't wait until next year to see if we can keep the streak going.

Yeah, I think the one thing I love about canoe country is that it produces "magic moments" all the time. And they can't really be planned...they just happen.

My dad has very significant health problems, and our trip last year was probably our last trip. This year's trip was probably our last trip, too. There's more magic on these trips than I'll bore y'all with here.
