I have fished Vale for many years and the fish like worms or marshmallows. The largest brookie was just under 5 pounds but most run between one to two pounds. There are also suckers in the lake.

Has anyone ever fished Vale lake off of Pine Lake ep 68 Gunflint area? I am hoping to make an attempt at catching some brook trout there in July this year. Anyone have any tips for brookies in this area/ on this lake?

We didn't make it to Vale. Only paddled up to the portage. But, we did fish it's sister lake Gadwall. (just a little east of Vale off of Pine)
We caught a few fish using little Mepps spinners & small sinking rapalas. If the portage to Vale is anything like the one up to Gadwall? (guessing it is) Make sure & eat your wheaties. ;-)

Well that stinks. Guess I better avoid it at all costs... Better not make a whole day out of it either. Nor would I want to bring anyone else right? Best if everyone just forgets about it altogether. Wouldn't want anyone wasting their time right? ;)

I've never fished it; but I have walked up to the lake. Like TB has said, the portage is steep. And the lake is beautiful.

When? I was there about 4 years ago. I got skunked (though admittedly it was in the middle of the day and I didn't have bait). I have never seen so many minnows in a lake before, either. Just clouds upon clouds.
On my way out, I talked to a guy who seemed to know what he was talking about. Said the lake is dead.
I fished it about 25 years ago and slayed the brookies.

Each year I visit Vale and catch nice fish. They like the south east end of the lake.
