I agree with the above. You need to just try them out and see for yourself. You can try using the MN DNR Lake Finder tool to get a lake depth map and fish surveys, but people aren't going to be publicly posting their favorite fishing lakes online.


You can ask an outfitter as well. They are usually friendly with people that stop in, especially if you give them a little business. They also tend to have more current information from people coming out.

Seems like maybe your question was too specific. Just head in and figure it out, but I get it, planning and asking questions ahead of time is half the fun!

I am planning a trip for the 3rd week of May 2024. I am going with one other person and we are camping for seven days. We plan on staying on Thomas, but to get there, we will go through lakes like Jordan, Ima, and Hatchet.

Which of these lakes would produce for walleye? Is it worth going to Thomas right away or should we stop sooner? How productive is mid-May fishing on these lakes? The water temps will be cooler so I am assuming shallower water and current will be our friend.

Any tips, tricks, locations, or advice anyone is willing to share?
