quote Doughboy12: "Ace Hardware has that line as well... I bought the "camo" one which is basically a tan with black squirted in the mold here and there. It also comes with some bungies and tow rope, for the increased cost. It is bigger than the Paris 960 and I liked it a LOT. Some of mine I have had for a few years and have ran them thru many harsh tests with zero breakage. My nephew has a newer one and I see he cracked the front end, could they have changed the material a little? The new one I bought it looks the same as the older ones. |

quote Arceneaux: "I've got the same sleds PINETREE is referencing, one in orange and one in black - I did see some at a couple of the metro area Menards stores not too long ago, would imagine they would be on clearance this time of the year. I've had mine for several years and they have stood up to some beatings (hauling deer out of the woods is pretty tough on a sled). Like you said,we really tried to beat them up deer hunting, over logs, rocks etc.,overall they are amazing. |

quote walleye_hunter: "Orange toboggans catch more fish but red toboggans are faster. Not sure about the black ones. That is NOT a Paris sled...but that is a nice set of fish. The orange is the 960, there is a light version the 860 that comes in blue. |

quote Arceneaux: "Thanks for that link Pinetree - it's tough to find quality sleds that won't break the bank. Previously, I had no problems with my orange emsco sled, but last weekend I cracked the front lip and put a big crack right in the bottom while out trout fishing...it sure is easier when you hop on the sled and ride down the big hills, just didn't plan on finding a rock in the middle of the trail on the way down :)" I don't think they are cheap tho and never have seen one. |

quote Pinetree: " I was pretty happy with this sled (Emsco Expedition, Camo )on my 5 day trip last week as far as durability and pack ability. I just think that if you’re going to do two or more trips a year it would be better to invest in a Black river type sled. On my way in it got a little gritty on the bottom and pulled just a little tougher due to the frost probably. 66 inches just doesn’t seem to be enough for a 5 day trip . I rigged mine up with two 7 ft PVC poles with the Clam pulling Harness that I recieved from TG here. I really liked that set up. I’ve never had a different type of sled but this one does seem pretty durable. It’s got a bit of flex in it even when it’s pretty cold which seems to help the durability. I know I could have done a better job of packing but this was my fist trip and I didn’t really know what I was doing. |

"The thread is about PARIS sleds...FYI" I would argue that the thread is about sled color-or at least that's what the OP titled it;) And I love that walleye_hunter dredged up the faster red version reference! |

quote Jaywalker: "Oh, and PINETREE, at which Menards did you see that black one? I may have a look..." It is the same as the picture above. the other good sled. It was Brainerd and in the $30-$35 range(they had about 5 in stock). That was in January. Fleet use to carry them and about 5 years ago for around $20.00-$25.00 in orange and than also camo in the hunting section for about $50.00 in the same sled just different color. But they don't handle them anymore. Getting harder to find. Been using this model for 20 years winter camping for some very long trips, and also to haul my deer out of the woods during deer season. I have had real good luck with them. I have a couple just for winter camping so they stay in better shape and a nice smooth bottom. They have good width and length with a nice hard bottom. First started with a smaller sled and it would tip over all the time. A perfect sled would be maybe a foot longer, but nothings perfect. |

So it looks from the catalog that my style is no longer available in black. I am pretty sure mine is a 960 - definitely not a snowhauler - so would the appropriate term for it be "vintage" or "classic"? |

First trip out it was sub-zero and I ran into a stump on a slight downhill fully loaded, the sled not me, and the front shattered. Needless to say I took it back and got the Paris one from the hardware store out east. I wish the one pictured wouldn't have done that because I did like the design much better. I could have got a bad one but wasn't willing to take the risk of going into the BWCA in the middle of winter with that in the back of my mind. There are some True Value stores that will order the Paris for in store pick up and no shipping charges...even for just one. Link |

I like the look of this multi color job. Anyone have one? In the description the line about diamond polishing is missing as compared to the orange. I fear it will pull much harder?? |

quote Sobi: "You do have to be careful with the orange variety. They glide so nice and are the perfect size, however the moment they get hit hard in cold to super cold they crack right through. Is this what happened to you Pinetree?" I have an orange sled and have not seen the problem you mention. It has seen -20 degrees with no problems. I don't baby the sled so maybe it's a matter of the manufacturing quality of the sled. |
