When I went I just drove off the Moccasin Point public access and across the lake to the portage, but there was a lot less snow that year.

Does anybody know how to access Trout Lake in the winter? Is it accessible from the North side by snowshoe?? Are the access roads plowed to the north? Or is it only accessible from the Lake Vermillion side, and if so does anybody know an outfitter that would bring you across the lake to the entry point?

Thanks

Slush appeared over the past weekend on the lake I go to. It is REALLY close to Mille Lacs Lake and it hadn't had slush at all yet this year...the last storm did it in. Two feet of snow on it now and the last foot is all slush.

I think TGO could comment but this last snow has slush reappearing on many local lakes.

You would have to check with the resorts on the Tower end of the lake as to how the ice is at this point. Slush was a major issue a month or so ago. If it is good ice most all the resorts can get you over to the portage, either by truck or snow mobile.Really no easy way to come in from the north. You would have to hike into Oriniak from the forest road, and then into Trout. Doable, but a major hike.
