Anyone here ever paddle from Hog Creek to Isabella? Ever been from Hog Creek to Ferne? Looks like a possible area to take the wife on first trip later on this summer.

Yes, I did Hog Creek to Isabella last year. I may have been the only person last year other than the Wilderness Rangers out of Tofte to paddle the Perent River. When I picked up my permit last year they weren't aware of anyone doing that section (Perent River).

There aren't many people who do the Perent River because of the many portages and it's not really part of any loop plus it's too much work for your average paddler. I don't know you or your wife but I'm guessing it might not be a good trip if it's one of your first trips, but it would be a learning experience. Efficiency in packing your gear on the Perent River is the key. I'm not saying, don't do it.

If you do it you will need to make arrangements for your vehicle to be at the end unless you do like I did and bike to the Hog Creek from Isabella Lake or back track.

Good luck finding the portage to Ferne Lake. If you find it there will be many blow downs and other obstructions to deal with to get to Ferne Lake. The area is now within a PMA, so the portage hasn't been maintained for several years.

Here is the link that I started asking a question about the Perent River

Here is the slideshow that I just posted again on an earlier thread a couple days ago with some photos of the area Isabella Area

The slides 1, 2, 27, 40-56, 70-80 were along the Island River.

Slides 7-26 are along the Perent River.

Slides 28-33 was when I was biking from Isabella Lake to Hog Creek.

Slides 34-36 Hog Creek.

Slides 37-40 Perent Lake.

Slides 56-69, 90-99 Isabella River area

Slides 81-89, 100-111 Isabella Lake.

I have been looking at Perent for a long time. Cllcanoe pics sure look good.

I have been trying to find Hog Creek on Fisher 4. Where is it? Maybe I need to dig out Fisher 5

answer my own question: Hog is on Fisher 5

Both Perent Lake and Isabella Lake are very popular, but very few travel between the two lakes.
