Fantasy Football Magazine and Cheetsheets. Some of my football buddys take a trip before the start of the season. We spend hours sitting around camp discussing rankings and strategies.

Football. or our handheld weather instruments made by Kestrel,,, very nice keeping track of pressures and other weather events. But it's probably the prime NY strip steak /Red King Crab mix for our annual Thanksgiving in the BW every May. Surf and turf in style!!

Picked it up at Mills Fleet Farm. It is a British military surplus cot net. It is a few inches wider and longer than a standard military cot and is about about 5 - 6 feet high. Works great as long as there are ample trees to string it to.

Oh, I was picturing netting just hanging from your head :).
Folding camp chair and hammock. Gotta have something supporting my back and up off the ground. Hammocks are great for afternoon naps in the shade with a cool breeze going through the pines.

This year I'm going to bring my Nook - it will take up less space than a couple of paperbacks. I bought a waterproof case for it and hope it keeps it safe and dry.

How long is the battery life on your Nook, alpine 525? I'm considering getting a cheap e-reader to do the same.
boonie - When reading on my Nook, the battery will last several weeks. There are some games on my Nook which will use up more of the battery life. I have a standard Nook black & white print - not the version with color (I believe the Nook with colored pages uses more battery). Hope this helps.

Yeah, color e-readers are a totally different screen technology and have battery life similar to any other tablet computer, but the black and white e-ink screens can got a LONG time between charges. Definitely handy if you get stuck in the tent during a rain for a day or just need some help falling asleep.

I have often wished I had some very compact field&stream guide to ID flora and fauna! Does anyone have any receommendations along that line? [Not to hijack the thread, just email to me.]

The wildlife book is essential on our trips. Buy them used on Amazon.

Thanks, sounds like enough hours of battery life for a long Sept solo...? Would you get 30 hours of battery life? I have a Nook Color, but the battery life isn't long enough to justify the weight. I think some of the non-color ones are maybe lighter weight, too?
Or in the case of last weeks Algonquin trip butt off the wet rocks and snow. Not a pain to portage either. It balances nicely on the opposite side of the Small Forest Axe.
I read e-books on my iPod touch. One battery charge lasted me well on a six-day trip last summer and I read quite a bit. I was surprised at how long it lasted. A lot more compact than carrying a couple of small paperback books. I love it for airplanes, too. Much easier to carry than a Nook or Kindle, as it fits easily in a small pocket, and weighs nothing to hold.
I hate to admit it (well, not really), but bringing a stash of good whiskey along really adds to the evenings, especially on base camp trips where the main emphasis is on fishing.
Exped synmat 9. You spend 6 to 8 hours every night on your pad. The extra weight and money spent on this makes it luxury, but well worth it. My dslr and camera gear are also luxury items but are borderline essential to me. The great photos after a trip make me forget that i carried the extra weight.
