Tore my achilles tendon a couple weeks ago. I have a long road ahead of me and there will be no trips up to my favorite spot to travel to this summer, the BW. This sucks!
Hope everyone enjoys it a little more after reading this. Sometimes we don't know what we have until it is taken away from us. Take care and catch some fish for me this summer.

Not sure of the healing process. When can you walk on it? I'm sure your tripping partners will haul the gear as you hobble along behind.
ps Bummer man. Sorry to see it. Mind if I send the picture to my girlfriend? It'll gross her out!

Wow! I think I won't complain about my arthritis pains tonight!
Sorry to see that, but glad you have it fixed and hope you heal well and as quickly as possible. I know, from friends who have had the injury, that it takes a long time and is a painful healing process.
I have been nursing a bad case of tendonitis in my Achilles since January. It has kept me out of one marathon already and I will most likely forfeit my entry fee for Grandma's also.
I can sympathize about missing the trip. I missed one in '04 because of a broken ankle.
That will be one cool scar though. A little work with a Sharpie and it could be a zipper or a huge centipede.

Been there done that - cost me 7 months of rehab - no more running, but I can walk 30+ miles with no achilles problem.
Bummer! Be pushing everything off to the right on the golf course.
Joy is a great teacher, but so is dispair. Wonder is a great teacher, but so is confusion. Hope is a great teacher, but so is disillusionment. And life is a great teacher, but so is death. To deny yourself any of those in any aspect is not experiencing life totally.
So sorry to see you are out of commission this year. It will undoubtedly be a long, slow rehab process. But you have a goal to aim for and that's a healthy leg capable of withstanding strenuous portages for many years to come, beginning in 2013. Best wishes throughout the recovery process.
If you are going to be mobile at all, then a border lake for base camping might work. Let your traveling partners do most of the work. Plenty of secluded bays to pick from. Best of luck.
