We have friends that will be heading on to Snowbank Lake June 1. Original plan was for all of us to go the same day, well now me and another buddy have the idea of getting on the water May 30 and meeting with them on sites at either ensign or another lake in that area.
I was just looking for ideas on entry points were could try getting in at that would allow us enough time to get in that area to meet up with them. This will only be my second trip up, the guy I an going with has been up there quite a few times. Last year we went in ep16 and stayed on Agnes.

The fastest & easiest way to Ensign is to get a tow out of Moose & get dropped off on the Indian Portage into Splash Lake.

That would be nice to get up on Ensign early and find a spot. We want to get out and spend some time fishing, would like to head to Ima to try for lake trout. Can anybody say if we would be wasting our time trying Ima?

Last year in early July my wife and I spent an afternoon fighting the whitecaps on Ima fishing lake trout. We caught an 18" and 23" trolling #11 tail dancer deep rapala's over the deep basin. I would think late May would be a much easier time to find the lakers since they will likely be shallower. I'd say it's worth a shot.

Do a couple days on Ensign, then take about a half-day to get to Ima. If your friends started on Snowbank, come out thru Disappointment to Snowbank. If the wind is strong on Disappointment, it'll be far worse on Snowbank...best way then is to portage into Parent and then into Snowbank, and even go around the island to get to the landing.

I've been looking on my backcountry navigator app at different routes. I just wish they showed the portage lengths and locations of campsites. I was thinking if we camped on Vera there are two other laked that showed trout in the dnr survey, just as aback up if its windy.
