Thinking of hitting Quetico next season. Can anybody give me an idea on a secluded walleye lake that that can be fished in windy conditions? Want to stay away from crowds and do not mind hard long portages.

I have one fo sho but it is not in quetico, it is in the BWCA. E-mail me for the lake name.

I'll give you one Quetico that I have not been to but have good info on. It is not small but is secluded. Joyce lake.

Quetico is teaming with great lakes like your asking for. I have a hunch that Woodside is good also.

By the way - while fishing your favorite "honey hole" this year, I bagged two pike in back to back casts at 42 and 38 inches. That's 70 inches of toothy slime in record time.

Yup - made my day. I tend to forget the slime really quick if they pull hard enough!

We did well on 'eyes, too. And the bald eagles were putting on a show. Several were in the area and were fighting over "turf" as best we could tell. Would attack each other and do amazing aerial acrobatics to attack/defend in flight. Never knew huge birds could do stuff like that.

By the way - I found a nice little rock hump in the far east end of Badwater you might want to know about.

Did you get your fishfinder for your trip this year? How did it work?

Sounds cool! What you may have witnessed was a male and female bald eagle in a courtship ritual. What time of year was it?

I have one also. Not sure on want to publish the name. It is small and you catch a walleye on alomost every cast. The walleyes are small too though. The portage trail was very faint but not long. You had to paddle through a lake trout lake to get to it. On the northern edge of the park.

The bald eagle acrobatics occurred in Sept right after Labor Day. Is that their mating season?

I still think I just didn't find the spots.

You can find old trails with really old tree blazes & exit the lake from the Southeast, with minimal bushwhacking.

Is that woodside near Agnes? With the oven for a fireplace? Was there in 2009. I didn't fish it hard but the litle we did it was good. Not hard to get in there either. I'd like to go back and spend a few days there working it over.

I was in there about 4 years ago at the "oven" site. The best fishing I found was around the islands.
20 years ago there was no "oven" but a fire site that was elavated, like a barbeque stand or an altar.

There seemed to be an evening bite on woodside and there is a reef straight north of the camp between a point and a small island. Caught some right from camp too. Has big fish potential.
