It is time to start the October 2011 Photo Contest.

First an important note. If you see that you have won the contest or a prize in the contest, please email your address and choice of hat, shirt, or bandanna to me.

The theme for this month's contest is "Fall".

Monthly Category: Show us those Fall shots in canoe country

Prize: BWCA Hat, Shirt or Bandanna.

Winner will receive an additional prize of leather work from Dicecupmaker with the bwca.com flying moose on it. Thank you Dicecupmaker!

Thanks to Cooke Custom Sewing (CSS) for sponsoring the year end prize!

Remember 1 entry per person please. This helps us vote accurately.

Rules:
- You must be signed in as a member with a valid email address in your profile to enter (or win).
- You can only enter one photo per monthly contest. You can enter the same photo if it did not win in a previous month.
- You must be the photographer of the photo and have the rights to post it.
- Photos are entered in the contest by making a reply posting to this message and using the "Add a photo to this message" link during composition. This will allow you to upload a photo from your computer to the contest or allow you to select a photo which you have already loaded into your photo gallery on this site. If you want to enter your photo in another way, please contact us.
- Please describe in the message the location of the photo.
- Judging will be done by the www.bwca.com staff and moderators.
- A member may win once per year.
- Photos must be posted to this thread by 11:59pm on Oct. 31st.
- Photos must be in jpg (jpeg) format and uploaded to the site.

Contact me if you have something in a different format or are having problems uploading to the site.

Just exiting Wood Lake from my first solo trip (Fall of 2011). Very thankful for the experience and glad to have made it though the trip. As I was loading up for the first portage leg, I saw the sunlight break through the clouds and trees, and it hit the yellows of the birch. Decided to drop the gear and snap a quick pic.

Great shot. Were you using a film camera, a DSLR, or something else? It must have great shutter control to get those wings in motion so crisp and clear.

Great job framing the shot, too. Sometimes, keeping the subject off center really adds so much!

I use a pentax k-7 dslr with a 300mm tamron lens . I think was shooting at about 1/320.

So many amazing photos this month! Mine is much less spectacular but holds many fond memories. This is the Gotter to Brant portage, September 2010. Her first ever BWCA trip and she loved every minute!

Thanks for the comments! Yeah, this one was challenging. Last leg of an 8 day trip. We thought the Little Sag to Virgin portage was tough and we had done that two days earlier. Thankfully we had planned a couple days on Gillis to fish so we got a chance to rest up a little. It's just us two gals and I hadn't been on a trip in years. I didn't pack as efficiently as I could have and so of course we were double-portaging too.
