What are the current fire conditions in the BWCA? Are there any fire restrictions in place? Is it likely there will be fire restrictions in the middle of June?

Fire restrictions obviously change with the amount of moisture in the woods. We may be flooded with water in mid June and not be able to light a fire with a nuclear bomb. Currently, the fire danger is very high and I think ATV use is discouraged because of it. Local rumor has it that the Dairy Queen had a "cease and desist" order placed on their Flameburger by the Forest Service:)

Typically, fire season last until about Memorial Day. June is usually a wet month. But there are no guarantees, and anything could happen, from flooding to severe drought. For what it's worth, the Climate Prediction Center is predicting a wetter than normal May. http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/predictions/long_range/lead14/off_index.html
