was up for a week in may, and again last week to Kawishiwi and then Brule. Bugs were nominal--didnt even use the deet spray. I think the temps have been low enough on average to keep them at bay.
Bugs were not that bad last week. We had strong winds for three days and that kept them in the woods. I would plan on the worst and hope for wind. Find a campsite that has good wind flow to keep the little buggers away.
I've been in twice this year - the bugs are out. However, it was windy both trips and the bugs couldn't compete with that. But - when the wind would die down........
Same here. It got hot last Friday, a few flies. Skeeters were never really what I'd call bad. I hiked the Hanson/S Knife portage in shorts and flip flops, which is stupid but I didn't have any bug problems

I was in June 5 thru 13th. Bugs weren't bad most of the time. Mosquitoes were thick on long portage from Boulder River to Agnes. I pretreated my clothes with permethrin and took along a thermacell. I don't think I got bitten once.
I was in 6/19 to 6/24. What seemed like a hundred misquitoes buzzed underneath the canoe with me on each portage but since I had treated my clothes and hat with permethrin and used a little DEET around my ears and the back of my hands, I didn't get bit once on the portages. Wind kept them at bay the rest of the time since the weather wasn't the greatest. The permethrin worked great as advertised.
