I haven't earned the right to be in this, just admire the way you guys close ranks

quote maxxbhp: "I haven't earned the right to be in this, just admire the way you guys close ranks" If you care about people and like the bwca then your as deserving as anyone else to ( be in this)maxx. Ive never met Amok but I feel like I know him already, so I consider him a friend and anyone that cares about his well being I consider a friend also. I think what hes going through has touched each and everyone to some degree whether its friends or relatives, so we feel like were in this fight with him and pray that he defeats his affliction.

I just finished a bunch of big batches of dehydrated food- lots of beefy stuff! I was thinkin' "I wonder of Amok would think it was weird if I sent him some for his first trip after treatment." Let me know...
Kinda worries me that there's been no response from Amok.
The Marines I have seen around the world have the cleanest bodies, the filthiest minds, the highest morale, and the lowest morals of any group of animals I have ever seen. Thank God for the United States Marine Corps!

I have noticed a few posts of his lately, so I think he has been around. Here is a link to a thread he posted on on 02/23/11. I have seen a couple of other threads he has posted on too, but don't recall which ones.
Thought this might alleviate some concerns.

I had some e-mail conversations with Amok early in the year. He mentioned the stem cell therapy he was scheduled for would be physically taxing. So much so that he would not be able to trip this season. Perhaps his absence is a result of this therapy. I hope it is temporary and we hear from him soon.
Just saw this post. YES! I'm OK :) Thanks for asking. I was out of town with no internet since Wednesday, and I slept most of yesterday. The 14 hour trip home Sunday was a bit long (and my friend I went with did NOT let me help drive home!!!)
You all are the best :D
I'm not on my 3 week (or longer) treatment yet. I'll hopefully find out from the doctor today when that will begin. It's not even 3 weeks of treatment, it's more of an infection watch. They call it recovery. With a stem cell transplant, they will be returning the stem cells and then watching me to make sure I don't get a serious infection that could lead to serious complications.
Amok, Good to see your typing again. We all missed you and wandered how you were doing. Thanks for the update. Hang tough and keep your chin up!! SunCatcher

Been away from the keyboard glad things are ok. Hope you feel well enough to make it to wing night this spring. We are all hoping to see your smiling face.
I'm so thankful Phil was able to make this trip. What a true friend Joe was to drive him to Tennessee. I'm thankful for friends like Joe, and for all the friends Amok had at BWCA.

Daughter and I were just thinking about Amok, "Am OK", Phil last night. He's still with us in spirit.

The subject line sure pulls at your heartstrings. I never met Phil in person either, just through his posts here.
I think it is nice to be able to read his old posts and see all the wonderful things that he said on the board... kind of a public journal that his family can read through.
I miss not getting any new posts from Amok. I liked his interest and curiosity about anything camping and canoeing. I like reading his old posts and Trip reports. I hope they are kept as a way to honor him and learn from his insight.
Skilletmary and I spent time with him at the 2010 Fall Wingnight. It was truly an honor to meet him and hear how he felt so lucky to still be alive after the first round of treatments and how that changed his whole outlook on life.
I think it might be a good idea to add an icon to a deceased member's profile. It would let new members know that this person is no longer with us but contributed to the site and the posts are a valuable insight into their lives. Otherwise someone could unknowingly respond to a post or Trip Report expecting a reply or feel awkward afterwords not knowing.
I think an icon of a white Lily in their profile would be tasteful. When you moused over the Lily it would say Deceased Member.

Perhaps a paddle, blade up, in lieu of a lily. As I have stated before, I never met Phil and only knew him through this site. Phil's untimely passing caught me totally off guard and shocked me, as my situation is somewhat similar. I pray the Lord will allow me a few more trips to His creation we all enjoy and love. Since fall Wingnight I have worn daily the AM OK hat I had privelege to purchase. It was item #13, and it still has the tag attached. It will come off naturally, when Phil deems it to be appropriate.
