A couple of months ago I saw some BWJ mags on sale on E-bay with the username "mosthoff" so I think they do sell them there occasionally. They were advertised as still in the plastic wrap and never opened.
Maybe I am too sensitive, but I was a little put off by that. I know a couple people that have tried to purchase back issues and have been told they did not have them. Then some of those issues show up on ebay. I can understand trying to make an extra buck, but probably not the best business decision in keeping your subscribers loyal. But that's just my opinion---I could be in the minority on that.
They keep a list of available backissues on their www. They list them at the stand price when they were published as far as I can tell. That would seem fair to me.
What happened in this case is someone called the owners of the BWJ and asked for a specific issue, was told it was unavailable and then later it showed up on ebay. I wouldn't call it unfair, but I know in this case they alleinated a customer, just to sell it for a few more bucks on ebay.
I'm still going to subscribe to the magazine, I'm pretty sure my friend still will renew his subscription although at first he claimed he would not.
I just think it could have been better handled. They could of even told him they were going to auction them off on ebay since there was only a few left. Instead he here's it through back channels--"hey I just saw mosthoff sell the issue you were looking for on ebay." The fact that it was sold for higher than stand price wasn't the issue to my friend.
Like I said maybe it is just me, but I just don't think that is a good way to run a niche business---alright I'll stop complaining about it after this post :)
