I didn't have a typical pic that could compete with all the spectacular photography around here so I thought I would slip this one in. I remember that evening because both me and my son had the giggles.

Sunset on Burntside Lake on July 2, 2010 at 8:54pm. I had been waiting for a good sunset all week long. When I finally saw some clouds gathering on our final evening, I grabbed my tripod and camera and ran to the point. For a photographer, clouds are to a sunset what a blank canvas is to a painter.
Joy is a great teacher, but so is dispair. Wonder is a great teacher, but so is confusion. Hope is a great teacher, but so is disillusionment. And life is a great teacher, but so is death. To deny yourself any of those in any aspect is not experiencing life totally.
My boy, Nidhal, on his first Boundary Waters trip, Alton Lake. He and I enjoyed several day trips into Beth and Kelso as well. Not the best quality of photos, but I like the mood and the Leopold quote along with it (below).
"The elemental simplicities of wilderness travel were thrills not only because of their novelty, but because they represented complete freedom to make mistakes. The wilderness gave them their first taste of those rewards and penalties for wise and foolish acts which every woodsman faces daily, but against which civilization has built a thousand buffers . . ." Perhaps every youth needs an occasional wilderness trip in order to learn the meaning of this particular freedom."

Oops. Typical man. I didn't read the directions. On my very first photo contest post I blew it. No wonder every posted photo had something to do with the sun. Oh well, I'm dealing with Boundary Waters withdrawal. I wanna go back bad.
