I believe kanoes' endorsements are genuine. This is a great tent and the price cannot be beat. It was a bargain at $149 when I bought mine... and when they are gone, they are gone.

Is this the 2nd or 3rd time they have brought it back to REI outlet as a "special buy" or "special run" or "special......"? Seems REI just cant decide to make them or not. Heck wait another month and they will be $99. I know the "TAJ" now has taken on a "cult following", if it is that good of a tent why arent they in regular production?

Wow, this is hard to resist. I feel my knees buckling. $100 off is alot. Maybe the taj3 isn't so bad after all. Don't tell kanoes. I would be buying the tent for my brothers, so it wouldn't technically be mine. Haha.

My experience has shown that large companies often have inventory that is "continuously" found and reoffered till it is gone. Also, whomever makes the tent for REI may have also found/made more to close out materials/patterns and offered a better price to REI.

You could be quite correct on the price next month, it is the risk we take until they are gone.

While I do not own or intend to purchase a "TAJ" so have no affiliation to a "cult", it is a fine tent option IMO. The "why" of why certain models are abandoned mystifies me. Why Eureka stopped selling the Alpine Meadows in the US (available in Canada $$) is a example.

I think kanoes is on a personal mission to displace the Timberline 4 as the tent of choice in the BWCA. If only they made them in green......

What do we call, kanoes' new cult members? Tajies?

Kanoes, Where is the grand welcome for joining the Taj3 cult? Ah, I see. It's all good when trying to get someone to join, but when you actually do it's a big let down. Now I'm just another one of the sheep? Screw that.... I'm calling REI right now and cancelling. It's not too late. The Taj implants haven't fulling connected me to the collective yet.
