I had an amazing trip with my daughter last weekend! We entered at Baker and camped on Jack. There were moose (saw 5 the first day alone and saw at least one every day) all over the place and the walleye were on fire. Her top 2 "hopes" for the trip were to see her first moose and to have a walleye dinner :). The blessing in disguise for the trip was that all 5 sites on Kelly (where my daughter wanted to camp) were occupied and that we had to go to Jack. Kelly had 12 canoes floating around fishing in the bay with the campsites and the only other site on Jack was a solo (member on here) and we saw very few people during our stay on Jack and the fishing on Jack was phenomenal. Weird thing was that on our way out Kelly was deserted with only 1 campsite occupied and that was on Saturday morning.
Quote of the trip came from my daughter when we were paddling to Jack and I was preparing her for the possibility that it was likely that Jack would be full with only 2 campsites and she said with a smile on her face.... "I'll paddle and portage until it's dark out to get a campsite in the Boundary Waters" :)

quote kanoes: "did ya use that old lean?"
Brought it with to use as a screen tent for eating in but ended up not setting it up. It was breezy the whole time and the thermacell did the trick when the wind did die down. Look at all the extra weight you made me haul with you son of a ha ha ha :) We are hoping to do our first whole family bw trip this summer and it will definitely get used then if we do as the smaller duckling and my wife are the 2 in the family that really struggle with the bugs!

These kinds of stories make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside because I remember taking my little girl on her first trip! Similar situation. I need to get her back up again. She's going to be 21 in Sep. So it'll be different but still good.
Without the bad times, the good times wouldn't seem so good.

Well done!! Love that smile!
MagicStik - I'm sad you're meeting resistance. If you and kiddo are willing, you should be able to go... it really IS that easy if you adjust things to suit abilities just a tad.

Just wrapped up a trip with my 13 year old son. The best quote from him started with "When we do this next year......" I thought this was great. I didn't ask him if he wanted to do this again next year, but on his own decided that he wanted to come back next year. What a great feeling!

I finally figured out the handle of the solo staying at the other Jack campsite. It was FOG51. Great guy and it was a privilege meeting him. He said that Merganser was at our site before us so I guess bwca.com owned Jack lake for a few days.
It was funny when we first met him...... we were paddling in the first skinny part of Jack and were coming up to a solo out fishing and exchanged hellos and asked about open sites up ahead and when we were almost past him all of a sudden he goes "who are you" ????? Then it dawned on me.... flying moose sticker on the stern of my canoe :).
We talked to him a couple of other times later in the day about where he/we had seen moose and where the fish were biting. He wanted to make my girl out fished her dad :)

Thanks for the kind words everyone! That one on one bonding time with each of my girls on their daddy/daughter trips is so priceless! They alternate years which one gets to go. I hope it's a tradition that is able to be carrie on for a long time.

Hoping a group of three is in your future.
