I am really new to using a computer, blogs, threads ect, so I would like to know what it means to highjack? a thread. If I have done this I am very sorry and no disrespect meant. Thanks FRED
I'm curious if anyone has ever had their canoe hijacked. Like maybe at a portage where someone sees your canoe and it is way better than theirs and so takes it and leaves you some old beat up canoe. I actually had that done to me in Boston but on bikes. Wow, the bike thieves in Boston were really tough. Almost as legendary as car thieves. And I had a friend who bought a really nice car when he graduated. He parked it outside my room and then I lent him my room for the night so he could keep an eye on it before leaving to drive across the country the next day. That was one nice 1963 Vette. And made in the USA. Why don't we talk about cars.
Oh, btw, highjacking a thread just means changing the topic so that the original poster gets less info on what they asked about. It happens a lot just as it happens in actual conversations when a group of people are talking.
Now about people taking stuff by mistake on portage trails....
The amount of satisfaction you get from life depends largely on your own ingenuity, self-sufficiency, and resourcefulness. People who wait around for life to supply their satisfaction usually find boredom instead.
Not a canoe but several years ago we came across a couple that had scouted the portage from West Bearskin to Daniels and had their gear stolen. We paddled back across West Bearskin with them and gave them a ride to Clearwater lodge and their car. Also I once had the hitch ball and receiver adapter taken from my car, fortunately the trailer was left. Now all is locked onto vehicle.
We always have time and money for what's important to us
Oh, I don't know. I think I'm truly beginning to believe that perhaps the best thing for the BWCAW would be to just turn it all over to private developers. Just think of how much tax money could be put into the states coffers by building cabins and homes on 2.5 acre lots on every one of those lakes! Build 50% of the homes to sell for at least $500,000.00, 25% for at least $1,000,000.00 and then the rest could be sold off at any cost. Maybe even make that last 25% empty lots so people could move in their camping trailers or build those cool little 18' x 24' half log sided shacks. Of course the state would lose a little money at first because of all the bituminous roads that would have to be built first. A few water treatment plants could also be built so that nobody would ever have to worry about getting sick from beaver poop too! Just think of all the little kitschy little shops that could be built. It would be a small business boom! Screw the roadless area, we need progress!

Oh, on some of those larger lakes the lots should be .2 acres. It would be just like living in the cities!

I guess I will continue the original topic by hijacking onto your comments. Just have to comment on the stolen equipment. I always considered that area one of the safest areas, and on such a short portage and time lag would one have the nerve to steal stuff. I would think they must have some idea who stole the equipment? I guess it only takes one jerk?

I think we all have done this. I have posted a topic to discuss, and suddenly the topic takes a 90 degree turn. I wonder how this can happen. But I have done it myself to others,I am also guilty.

It happens All the time here. Someone will say its hot outside and after a few replies we are fighting about global warming or it get political. Kind of a drag if you are the person who asked one question and you subscribe to the thread and get irrelevant e-mails on something you did not want to read about.

I really don't think that global warming will be an issue concerning the development of the lakes in the BWCAW. Warmer weather should help sell a lot more lots to people from Chicago, St Louis and Dallas!

Will the global warming affect the usage of motors on the lakes once cabin building is allowed? Most of the BWCA & Quetico are motor free now.
And I see by your profile you like to fish. If I see you in the B-dub, I may ask for some fishing lessons. I'm pretty clueless there. In exchange though, I will help you with typing on those tiny smartphones!

They are already here, and for the cooler weather.

Yeah, where can I get one cheap?
Fred, Younger people are fast-talkin' and don't like tangents, what our generation called being friendly. You just gotta accommodate them and talk like a city feller - concise and no tangents (i.e. storytelling). It also helps if you wear your pants with no belt and play video games on your TV. Email me with all your stories, and I'll throw a few your way.
Tony.

I'M not sure if this reply should go here or under something else but I'm putting it here anywho. Thanks one and all for the explanation of highjacking, I am more convinced my thread wasn't so much highjacked as pillaged. Thanks again. FRED

Joy is a great teacher, but so is dispair. Wonder is a great teacher, but so is confusion. Hope is a great teacher, but so is disillusionment. And life is a great teacher, but so is death. To deny yourself any of those in any aspect is not experiencing life totally.
Not much on pancakes, but hijacking reminds me of DB Cooper. Anybody remember Mr. Cooper? Another thing about hijacking, who said: "The way to handle the hijacking problem is to arm all the passengers. Then, the hijackers wouldn't dare try anything 'cause they'd be outnumbered."
Free BWJ frying pan for the 1st correct response (shipping additional). No fair using google. Only codgers over 50 would know this, so only old codgers (codgerettes) are eligible for the award.

To stay on topic sometimes shows ones attention span.

Without looking it up, I would say DB Cooper is the guy that stole all the money out of the airplane and jumped out. Never to be seen again. Is that correct? Back in the early 70's I think over Washington state.
Who said to arm the passengers? I would say Ronald Reagan.

quote Beaverjack: "Ok, I'll give another hint: Glen Miller."
Didn't Jimmy Stewart play Glen Miller in a movie? Following that train of thought I will guess that Jimmy Stewart wanted the planes to be full of 2nd Amendment advocates.
(Do you see what I did there? I answered Beaverjack's question while at the same time subtley introducing a highjack thread about Jimmy Stewart's movie career.)
