Well, I guess it's true. I've been back now for a little over a month and I find myself yearning to return to Quetico. I guess when they say you leave a little of yourself in canoe country, they aren't kidding. Hopefully I can make the trip again!
I know if I stay too long in the park,I come to my senses and realize that maybe the modern world around us,we really don't need. A person forgets sometimes how lucky we are to have a place like Quetico.

I don't like to think about it but I'm down to less than a month - I guess it's just 4 weeks today - hopefully will be past North Bay in Isabella Creek about this time of day.
The Q can be a little pricey in terms of actual dollars spent, but the value not matched by the BW. I look forward to my next trip. My budget always always has money for the trip, but wife is a little reluctant at that point.
the greatest come backs are reserved for those with the greatest deficits.
Spent seven days with my daughter this May in Quetico. It was one of the best all around trips since my first trip to the park in"73" , also one of the most challenging. I want to try my 1st solo this early October, if I can convince the wife. Yes, it is expensive, especially when you throw a tow on top of licence and fees. I appreciate the bwca side and have had great trips there, it's just that the Q offers so much more.
want a real trip? woodland caribou. ya have to mark your maps....no fishers or mckenzies avaialble, and portages arent obvious. its a real wilderness trip. quetico is just the bw with many less people.
Woodland Caribou looks intriguing, remote, and challenging. How do you access? Fly-in? For my first solo though, I think I will stick to an area I know. Any thoughts on an SR Tranquility for a solo? I am 6' and 210lbs.
Woodland Caribou would be fun, but more expensive and another day travel. That's the same area as the Scout Bissett base. I'm hoping to take a group up there in a few years.
I did my first solo last fall out of Beaverhouse in an SR Tranquility and really liked it. Very high initial stability. I'm 6'-2" and 235 and much more the tortoise than hare. Looking for Tranquility was the reason I ended up at Beaverhouse - couldn't find a Tranq on south side.
Just finished your trip report. Are you going to spring for the Tranquility or are you going to wait and try out the Prospector? I am gravitating towards Souris River even though I presently own a wenonah. Rented a SR 17 for a trip a few years ago and liked the stability and construction. Would somehow like to paddle a tranquility before October or any UL Solo, just not to many opportunities here in NW Indiana.

So, if one does not travel into the WCPP s/he is not on a "real trip?"

I just ordered a pack grille for the Quetico today. Waiting for a roll of reflective golden cord, 300'. Got my eye on a new 15x10 tarp, and 4 adjustable poles. I can't wait. We are doing a fly-in to Beaverhouse Lake. The sad thing is, it's not untli next June...
