My overall experience at Britton's was good. If they did not have the worlds worst coffee it would have been great. Was it just my one experience or is there coffee really bad?

I loved the french toast special. Hated the coffee. Just awful.
Really bad...

quote adam: "Wow, I actually thought for a Minnesota cafe it was pretty good! It was certainly better than 99% of all small cafes I stop in. " Wait... the coffee? Or the food? I thought the food was great and the portions were huge. But.... the coffee?
Maybe you ordered a cup of hot tea and were served the coffee instead and couldn't tell the difference?

I know I'm in the minority but I think Britton's is overrated. OK, big portions but I get big portions of good diner food in all the diners in Lansing Michigan. Cheesy hashbrowns are good but not great. I've gone there twice and if I hadn't heard all the hype I would have said "Yeah, that's a good diner."
I am pretty sure they know the coffee is bad. I seem to vaguely recall reading something on the wall or elsewhere in there humorously addressing this issue.
The few times I was there it was 6AM. The food and portion sizes were both good enough that I guess the bad cofee went unnoticed on my part. I agree with the last post.....If I were the owner or the cofee person I'd want to know too.
If I were to compare Britton's to some of the breakfast joints around my house, it would not compare. Huge cafes with their own bakeries and so forth. Huge menu's with 30 different types of omelettes, a dozen different type of pancake and waffles, and huge combo plates.
That being said, I am going to the BW to get away from all of that. I am looking for simple. Crack a few eggs, scramble in a little ham and cheese, cook my hash browns well done (is there any other way to eat hash browns other than crispy???), and lets get to the entry point. They do this very well, with good portions to fill the belly before my first Clif bar after about 45 minutes of paddling later.
That being said.....their coffee does suck. I stopped at some little coffee shop on that main drag (Front Porch) or get coffee from that gas station next to Voyaguer North. Both are far superior to Brittons. I just carry it in.
For the record, I was referring completely to their coffee. Everything else about the joint is great. Quick in and Quick out is what you want anyways before you get to paddling. We ate at 6AM and I didn't get hungry until about 2PM. Now I just need to figure out how to keep the leftovers good in the car until the end of the trip.
The tea was absolutely horrible, too. It's Lipton, which is bad enough, but now reading this post I wonder if their water isn't bad somehow? Because this Lipton was barely drinkable, and I've had Lipton tea bags before and while not my preference, they weren't THAT bad.

" Yup. The stuffed hash browns were excellent, but the coffee totally sucked. Weak. You should not be able to read the paper through a pot of coffee :)
