I'm planning a trip to Agnes via the Meadows, and I'm thinking of not doing those portages twice in one trip. The options are to come back to North Bay via either (1) Silence and Shade Lakes, or (2) Jeff Lake. Does anyone have any experience with those routes? Thoughts? Or thoughts about good campsites on Agnes?
I have been through the S chain and it is pretty scenic and not overly exhausting. Good fishing too.
How long is your trip, how far up Agnes did you want to stay? What your goals for the trip? Are you moving or base camping? When are you going?
If you want, email me Drewvz@att.net and I can give you some more specific campsite info and fishing info.
The meadows portages are difficult, but not impossible. I've been through them both at the beginning and at the end of my trips. If you are in decent physical shape they are manageable, little kids or an out of shape person may struggle on them. I would recommend practicing carrying weight up and down hills to prepare yourself, but again thats all personal preference.
The S Chain or East - Jeff - West (easy in higher water years) are both alternatives but realize going out, North and Bayley Bay can get rough and cause delays. So I go in by one of those other routes and head out by Meadows so if bad weather, I have the Poacher Lake route available back to Inlet and PP, and the only rough water is a short stretch on Sunday.

I would recommend going through the S-chain into Isabella. There is a great stream into Isabella that is nice to paddle through. There are a few a few beaver dams on the stream that you have to portage around, but the scenery is worth it. Coming through North Bay is nice and there is some good fishing in that area as well. Happy Trails!
