Lots of small fires are pounded out quickly, it depends on available resources, fuel conditions, and where the fire is and if it will do anything productive if left to burn.
Considering every available firefighter is tied up out west, I would guess that they are less willing to take chances right now.
Just noted - fire in the Perent area. This hot weather is nasty. Makes it hard to fight the fires everywhere.
Perent Lake Fire Report, July 3 Perent Lake Fire Information
The USFS is managing a fire 1 mile west of Perent Lake. The fire is within 1/4 mile of the Pagami Creek fire. Fire is burning in a mixed boreal type that consists of spruce and hardwoods mainly with some scattered pine. The fire has very poor access for firefighters to safely fight the fire. Therefore the strategy is to suppress the fire with aircraft. Visitors in the area may see aircraft.
quote BearWhoSwims: "Gosh it must have dried out fast. It seems there has been so much rain up there in the last few weeks."
I agree but, there is little actual soil to retain the moisture so it continues to move and thus the surface can dry quickly. It's amazing fires and floods in such close proximity.
