where you pull it along at just the right speed so it stays on top and makes a little clacking noise? If not, try it. Pike and especially smallmouth love it. I once caught a 22" walleye on the Snake River that way as well.
that seems to be all I do. always works around the rock piles and shallows. I like the blue and white J-11. haven't tried any other sizes or colors. Has any one else?
Technique is called "waking", because you leave a little "V" wake on the surface. Great technique, guys in Striper areas use huge floating minnows and do really well. Try a 9 or 10in. Striper minnow for BIG pike.

That is a bit pricy but it seems like lots of folks will overpay for something that targets musky. I personally like the Saltwater Grade Bomber Long As for musky. They cost under $10, are 7" long, have great action, and have produced for me.

I thought I was the only one twiching mag bombers." Maybe we're the only two. I can't help but snicker when I see guys dropping $20+ on musky baits that are overpriced and oversized, IMO. The only thing I worry about on some smaller baits is the strength of the hooks and split rings. I've found saltwater cranks (bomber and offshore angler) to be very heavy duty and I have plenty of success with baits in the 7" range. Plus they don't wear me out so I get more casts and cover more water which I think equates to more fish.
To each his own but guys throwing 2oz. 14" crankbaits or 12" double-colorado spinners just seem nuts to me.
