I want to take both my wen. wilderness and grumman 17 on the same trip, but they are too wide together for my yakima cross bars. I could put the wilderness in the kayak rack and the canoe on the crossbars, but was wondering what the air stream pressure might be on the open canoe. Does anyone have any experience with this or knowledge thereof?

No idea and no experience with this. I don't think I'd try it. No reeason other than I'm in that sort of mood this evening, more's the pity. I would buy longer bars the next time they are on sale. (i know this doesn't help you now).

You say that like it's a bad thing.

You can attach longer 2 x 4's to the round Yakima bars with U-bolts. That should extend the length to where you can attach both canoes side by side in the conventional manner.

"Said one of these men, long past seventy years of age: 'I could carry, paddle, walk and sing with any man I ever saw. I have been twenty-four years a canoe man, and forty-one years in service; no portage was ever too long for me. Fifty songs could I sing. I have saved the lives of ten voyageurs. Have had twelve wives and six running dogs. I spent all my money in pleasure. Were I young again, I should spend my life the same way over. There is no life so happy as a voyageur's life!'"

That's an awesome idea. It's so simple, and it just never occurred to me. Excellent idea!
