I have the opportunity to join a group headed to this area. I have not been to the Q since I was a kid (not counting some accidental drifts in from the BDub). Was there one time and nowhere near this area.
Does anyone have any opinions of this area? Anything good or bad to know about it?
Thanks and happy paddling.

I've tripped to Quetico almost every year for 30 years. Enter at BH and travel thru Quetico into other areas most of the time.
Email me and I'll fix you up with all the detail you want - travel logistics, portages, water risks, fishing, camp sites and maps.
Beaverhouse is absolutely beautiful - remote, big water, great fishing, pictos and several islands. Same for Quetico Lake - big water, solitude, great fishing and 20 miles of open paddling.
Fitgers...pictographs on both lakes! Lots of really cool rocks, big pines, old logging area so that part of the history of the area can still be seen along portages and some shorelines.
Entering Beaverhouse around Labor Day - our fourth or fifth time jumping off from there. Except for the ranger's occasional floatplane noise, it's nirvana. Definitely worth the looooong ride on backroad to get there. One of our favorite Q spots. Gets you into secluded country fast, plus most times the wind is at your back :-)
Not taking the solo mocha. It is a fill in position on a tandem. The trip is late July. Received your email old Hoosier, thank-you. Haven't had the chance to read it yet. Sounds like a great place to trip. I think I might have to jump on this offer.
I apologize for responding late, I was watching The Hatfields and McCoys.

Hoosier ~ I’m also entering Beaverhouse to Quetico in 7 days. A 5 day solo and my first visit to the “Q”. Would you be so kind to forward me the info you mentioned above? Email is in route. I look forward to exploring the SW of BH. Thank you so much.

It's only a spot on the map... until you go there.

I am so mentally ready! Have a great trip.

You didn't mention if you're paddling to the ranger station to get your permit. If so, we need to talk about the size of that lake and what a 20 mph west wind will do trying to cross the water. At that point it's more like hell.

Tom" Thanks Tom. Great to hear how nice Beaverhouse can be. I hope to spend my last day/night in the SW island area as I'm curious since there is not a lot of talk about that area. Thanks for the warning of the winds, I have read quite a bit about the winds there. I will be cautious. I will get my permit in Atikokan. Interesting side ~ I just checked the extended forecast for next Wednesday and it 'predicts' Sunny and East winds at 8mph. I hope they are right.
Both are great lakes. I soloed up there three years ago and have been dying to go back. Email me if you'd like and I can add to your campsite, fishing location knowledge, as well as a few tips about some portages etc.
