Fished the South Kawishiwi area Sat-Sun-Mon...lots of rain late Sat night into Sun morning, then again Sunday afternoon, and late Monday night into noonish on Tuesday a light to steady rain. Saturday night had as good a lighning storm as I've had in a tent in a few years...wave after wave came thru. The river went up about 5" on our campsite rocks. Fishing was basically lousy...a few crappies, a few northern, and a few small walleyes. We had a good time anyhow. Great to be there, with your whole world essentially within your eyesight. But, strangely, we did have cell phone reception.
curious..how did you feel about having cell phone service? did you stop and think about if you felt more secure knowing there was coverage whether you needed it or not? were you annoyed, thinking someone on the next campsite might also get reception and then start yapping on their phone all nite?
there is so much controversy about cell phones, and i am NOT trying to start a ranting thread about it. just wondering how you felt in that moment of discovery?
I have seen those river systems water level go up numerous feet in a very short time due to the Canadian shield bedrock everywhere. Much of it just runs off.

Y'all do me a favor, keep this cell phone thing just between us. Not sure why but my boss thinks there's absolutely no cell service anywhere near the BW.

" I just tell him my cell phone doesn't work up there. I don't tell him that I take out the battery and leave it in the car, he doesn't need to know all the details :)
Glad to hear it's been raining, sorry it had to do it on your trip but I guess somebody has to take one for the team.

I'd bet my little cheapy cell phone wouldn't work there, but one of the guys had one of the "do-it-all" types and he brought it in as his camera. He never made a call on it that I know of, but did check the weather and his messages. I always figure that when I'm out there I'm on my own, so I actually was a little irritated that he couldn't separate himself from the leash for three days. As for the weather reports? Ely station had them wrong about half the time.
By the way, the other tent guys didn't know any better and used their "innie" as an "outie"...with predictable results. They were in a slight depression (gotta use the tent sites available) and the puddle found a way in the seams. Innie is the ONLY way!
