Hey! I am looking to purchase a light/latern to set up in camp after dark. Hanging might be nice but would be fine with it just sitting on a rock. Looking for lightweight but a high brightness output, also not looking for any gas powered lamps. Anyone have any ideas?
I've read reviews by folks quite impressed with this one, available at Home Depot. The brightness and the swiveling panels were the most welcome features.
Says it weighs 1.1 lb, probably before adding the 3 D batteries, so maybe more for ice fishing or car camping.

Like bojibob, my wife also brings along the Apollo lantern when we trip together.
We sometimes use it as an area lamp but most often it is found inside the tent. She likes to set up all our sleeping gear and keep things tidy. It gives her enough light for these tasks without her headlamp on all the time.
Though I am very satisfied with the one we have, it has been improved since we purchased ours a few years ago. Nice little lamp.

Black Diamond Orbit. $30, 3oz, 3AAA batteries. Puts out enough light for inside a tent or when eating. No reason to light up the woods, you know. That's what the headlamp is for.

+1. I have the same lantern. It produces a great amount of light at the same time being very light weight. Had I known of this lantern earlier I would have bought it years ago. This is a great product...
Watch out for that rock!!!........ Oooo.... That's going to leave a mark...
