I'm a first time traveler to BWCA and I'm having two major problems with my trip planning. I expect to to be on the water for about 2 weeks but I having trouble finding an affordable canoe/kayak rental. Most are advertising around $25-30 a day which will really add up. Anybody have suggestions for getting a boat for a longer trip? Also, I'm having trouble finding a way to get from the airport in Minneapolis or Duluth to an outfitter. I'm a college student so I'm looking for inexpensive solutions to both problems. Thank you very much for any pointers you can give!

Consider posting to join someone on a trip, getting picked up in MPLS, pay for gas [cheaper the renting car], split rental cost of canoe. I have done several trip this way.

Why are you flying? Driving might be cheaper if you have a vehicle. A college student can get to the BWCA from anywhere in the US in two days max (excluding Alaska and Hawaii).

Are you wanting to do a solo? Or are you meeting anyone up there. What time of year are you going. you might be able to jump in on anothers trip if you hit the right time and place to go in. You might post the time of year/dates you want to go in on this forum a little closer to your entry date and find someone to at least pick you up from airport and maybe even trip with.

If you post too early, your thread might get lost by the time you need to seriouly start looking.

i am planning on two trips next year (spring/fall) and pass through both cities.

BenL, can you give us a little more info? Where are you coming from, how many people, when and where you want to go? It would be helpful so we could help you.
