Myself, my dad and my brother are heading up to Pine Lake, Caribou Lake, Clearwater Lake, Mountain Lake and Moose Lake the second week of July through entry point #68. This will be our first trip to the Boundary Waters so I was hoping you all could provide me with some fishing tips about the area, things to bring, campsite advice etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks and enjoy the fishing!
welcome erik.. First timer and then you'll be hooked. You will catch fish, even on accident. Savage is right, small mouth are everywhere in those lakes. crawlers/leeches/rapalas/ You will catch em.
only tell true fish tales (or ones that cant be disproven)
You should be able to catch walleye on pine and moose lake. Smallie action was insane on clearwater the last time I was there and there are lake trout to be caught as well.
Clearwater and pine lake are gorgeous lakes. Actually most of the lakes on that route are picturesque because they are surround by steep hills.

Welcome, Fishing is good on all those lakes. A word of caution for Pine Lake start early and get to the west end of the lake of the wind will be comming out of the west, when the winds get blowing down the length of Pine you will wish you were at a camp site. I've seen 4 ft waves on pine.
It's not the speed, but the grace in which you arrive.
Was on Pine earlier this spring. I wholeheartedly agree with fishfrys' warnings about the wind/waves in that area. If you like? Check out my trip report.
Also, If you haven't done so already? For campsite & portage information checkout the map
Thanks for all of the advice! I have my rapalas, jigs, and mepps spinners packed that have been successful in past camping trips in MN, WI, and Canada. Does anyone know if its worth making a trip over to West Pike or East Pike for the day?
Thanks again for all of the help...we'll be sure to get across Pine lake as early in the morning as possible!
I've stayed on East Pike lake before, believe on an island, I'd have to look at a map. Caught some smallies around the island on the south side of it. Your call if it's worth it or not?
