2 of us are going up in a few weeks and are thinking of doing a daytrip loop starting at Morgan Lake entry and ending at Ram.

Is this too much for 1 day?

Ummmm ... I don't know. I have done the trip in three days, but that was camping and double portaging. My guess is, yes, you can do it. Get an early start. I'm guessing 10 hours since it is a daytrip and you'll be lightly loaded. Remember you'll have the Misquah to Little Trout portage, which will be the worse.

Remember,10 hours is a guess so give yourself plenty of leeway in case I'm off.

have not been on Morgan but have done the rest. Its only about six miles, it probably will take you longer to portage than paddle, the portage Bannok spoke of is hard,(look up treads about hard portages etc.) bannok and I are not alone . however it sounds like a good plan, a nice area. I would do it. 10 hours is a good guess, if your expeirenced and have limited gear I bet you do it quicker, tom

If you're in any shape at all and can steer a canoe then you can easily do this in a day trip with a 5 mile run/walk back to your vehicle. As long as you don't crawl on the portages you should be good.

Happy Paddling,

I think for a day trip you should easily have time to do this. I have never been on Carl, Morgan or Lux lakes but have gone from Ram to Horseshoe in one day carrying far more gear than you would need on a day trip.

My girlfriend at the time and I one-tripped every portage, but that required me to carry a pack on my back, a pack on my front and the canoe, while she carried next to nothing. I don't think my body could withstand this sort of physical torture over those portages again. I learned a lot on this trip: about route planning, how to pack, what to pack, how to expect the unexpected, and who to never bring to the bwca again. lol.

But all of this aside, I think this sounds like a great route if you are in reasonable physical condition and can carry your day pack and canoe at the same time. I would not want to double portage from little trout to misquah and would avoid this at all cost. The portage has two large hills that you will summit and descend near little trout. Otherwise it is boulder-strewn, narrow in places, and wet from time to time. Ram is a beautiful clear-water lake, misquah is secluded and neat, Vista is also worth some time exploring. Didn't have any luck fishing on Vista though. Your exit from Ram is downhill and has an awesome view on top of the hill of distant bluffs.
