When I first saw the Esquif Mistral, I started googling the name and I didn't come up with much information other than the Esquif website, though there were a few "first impression" reports and numerous comments. I assume that the Canoe mags have written it up in detail, but I didn't see those online. I'm no canoe expert, but I thought I would try my hand at writing a comprehensive report that would pull together some useful info, photos, and my personal experience. It ran kinda long so I'm going to provide a link to it rather than clog up the bandwidth here on the forum.

It's a Google doc. I hope that is readable for anyone who is interested. If you have trouble reading it, let me know and I'll try a different approach.

Esquif Mistral Review I hope it helps anyone who is curious about this new type of boat material.

Thanks Krusty,

I've been curious about Esquif's Twin-Tex layups. I talked with them 2 years ago at Canoecopia and they said that they realized from paddlers interested in the durability and weight savings of the Twin-Tex that they had to get a solo trippimg canoe produced. I hsven't noticed yet that it is available. They were quite proud that the environmental impact of the Twin-Tex was a great improvement over other lay-ups.

And still waiting on a 17 footer, either the Mistral or a Twin Tex Prospector.

The Esquif website now lists a Mistral 17.5 which they describe as "prospector-ish". Weight is 61 pounds.
