04/11/2008 09:10AM I have scouted a couple of the campsites on this lake but never stayed in them. The ones I saw tended to be above the lake a bit. Probably ok for a dog. Haven't fished it yet, but with as big as the lake is I would bet you could find fish if you look for them. I suggest visiting Johnson falls too. It might be a bit cold for a dip in May, but its should be a pretty view. |

04/10/2008 10:10PM I have a May 12 trip planned but asked my daughter to delay (iceout?). What about large/open campsites ( I have a dog )? May fishing? |

04/09/2008 02:28PM Pine is great for both fishing and camping. The Bays in both of the East and West ends of the Lake are good walleye fishing...and fish shorelines for Pike and Smallmouth. Make sure to make a stop at Johnson Falls...there is an entry through the woods on the West End, South side of Pine lake. It is amazing to stop in a take a dip in the cool waterfall! Any other questions, please feel free to ask! J |

04/09/2008 02:14PM Where are you entering? If it is Pine Lake you'll be going through GM to Hoveland and up the Arrowhead Trail. You'll paddle up MacFarland which is outside the BW. You'll see some cabins on the north shore and a cool looking hill made out of shale on the south. The portage can either be paddled or walked through. No portage needed. Pine runs east-west and can be a real wind tunnel. That can make fishing tough. i haven't caught much there but some small smallmouth. I don't fish much though. Still, I never hear that Pine is much of a fishing lake. Pine is probably best known for Johnson Falls on the west end of the lake. When I've been to Pine, I've found the campsites nice though not particularly special. I'm not positive but I think all the campsites are on the north shore. |
