Are you headed to Fourtown or Horse?

I'll say the 3 portages into Fourtown from Mudro are probably what you are speaking of. I do not feel any of them alone are all that bad, but the three together with such short breaks between each one, make them a bit of a pain for some. None of them are too long, none are real steep, but they do have rocks and roots, especially the first one coming out of Mudro and will be real slippery if there is snow.

Going to Horse-the Mudro Sandpit portage has a steep downhill right at the Sandpit end. Aagin if there is snow it will be treacherous. This portage is much harder coming our from Sandpit, but it is not real long and after climbing Heart attack hill it is pretty easy.

Thanks, that should help a lot. How about at far as water levels go? I've heard those first couple portages could be kind of troublesome w/ a lot of gear

Conditions can change rapidly in this area.

As you get closer to your trip date, give me a call at 218-365-4744 and we should be able to get you some first hand info. on hunting and fishing.

Does anyone have any up to date reports or conditions from this area. We are planning our annual late season bwca trip and this is our area of choice. We wil be heading up in mid october and staying for 4 days. We are all new to this area, and could use a little advice. Last year we waited until the end of october and had white out conditions for most of our trip, so we decided to move it up a couple weeks. We don't do a lot of traveling on this trip because we like to spend our time duck hunting/fishing. Any info on scenery, camping, fishing, or duck hunting would be greatly appreciated.
