shsylvester	07/03/2012 02:13PM Don't know whether they're still available, but for the first time this summer I wore a pair of Wright-McGill Rogue Pants. Tough, waterproof, wide legs with 15" zip for on and off. Just great. They were originally $200, but I stalked them online and snapped them up at $50.

TheBrownLeader	07/03/2012 10:13AM There are two bits of tripwear that I swear by and would not consider taking a trip without. One is my rain pants. I have these: http://compare.ebay.com/like/370620024613?var=lv<yp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar Highly recommend. they are the only long pants I bring, as if it's cold enough to want pants, they do great at keeping me warm. As far as protection from the rain, they are top notch. And stylish too! TBL

Harv	06/18/2012 03:26PM Jan, I received Kool Dri rain gear as a gift 15 years ago and I will never leave that company for rain gear. best stuff in my opinion.

overthehill	06/17/2012 07:38PM I have some from 'The s Guide'. I really like them, especially in May. search 'gore tex pants'. They are not bulky, but substantial. Not super-thin packable either, but I wear them under 70 degrees all day ....raining or not. New German military flek-tarn camo. They have built in suspenders, but not high cut like chest bibs either. Zippered legs and very light. Don't tear easily either. Thin gortex.
REG	06/17/2012 07:09PM Even though they're more weight, I like bibs. Always seems that the rainjacket eventually funnels the rain down back of pant cut rainwear.

ubbenholdthekraut	06/17/2012 05:54PM Just took the plunge and bought the kilt. Thanks for the tip. I'll get some grief I'm sure from my fellow canoe mates, but I'll also be breaking out my exped dreamwalker sleeping bag this trip. Apparently I've given up caring about looking cool.

Hank	06/17/2012 05:20PM Probably the best rain pants out there are these from Filson. They are also half off at the moment. They will be warm in hot weather! And these are made in the USA of imported fabric. Filson Rain Pants

AndySG	06/17/2012 12:50PM Jan.....I scored these Sherpa Adventure Gear rain pants on Steep and Cheap 2 years ago. So far so good. There are several positive reviews out there which support my positive experience.
Savage Voyageur	06/17/2012 10:10AM It rained four of the six days I this week on my trip. I lived in my Columbia rain pants and jacket. I got both at the outlet store in Albertville MN. They were under $100 for both.

Rain Shadow Have Marmot Pecips and like 'em but 'cumbersome' waist tabs are odd since leg zips don't expand with any significant waist/undergarment adjustments.

But he was sitting up front with Patagonia rain pants and would nearly tip the canoe trying to wrestle himself into his pants. He would delay putting them on because he knew he would get hot if we missed the rain. Then he had to put them on in a hurry and half stand up in the canoe. In the meantime, I slid down to my knees, pulled the kilt out of a front pocket of my jacket (where it resides unobtrusively), and wrapped in around my waist. In seconds I would have been back to fishing if I did not have to manage the canoe while he was flopping around with his rain pants. Then it started with lightening so we had to hit the shore. We were both wet footing at that point. His rain pants left his legs soaked and held the water in. My pants were nearly dry by the time we got back in the boat in a light rain. When the rain stopped, he broiled while I pulled off the kilt. The kilt is a bit of a hard sell, but for functionality and cost in 3-season weather you can't beat it .

wetcanoedog	06/16/2012 11:59PM i got mine years ago from Cabelas so i don't know about newer brands but this is what i looked for,the jacket is the light weight one from Bean. gor-tex of course,a bit loose so they fit over my pants,zip legs with flaps that close with that hook and loop stuff.the zips should not be too long IMO,just enough to pull on over boots.and what i really wanted so i did not get the Bean Pants,double heavy nylon on the seat and knees.sitting in the canoe or kneeling around the camp i wanted something that would take the wear and tear.after 20 something years on the trail i have never had any problems with them. however--as i have become overweight since i got them i now use suspenders to hold them up.without them the pants work down a bit when i'm sitting in the canoe and water runs down the jacket and into the seat of the pants!!!

jeroldharter	06/16/2012 11:10PM So am I. A bit of a leap of faith. For $30 it is almost free and if ypu don't like the kilt it makes a good mini ground cloth/tarp. Otherwise any modern rain pants, with side zips, on sale, with proper inseam length would work. I hate black rain pants (wish they came in white) because they get so hot when the syn comes put but that seems to be the most common color.

jeroldharter	06/16/2012 10:35PM I just got back from a rainy spell in Quetico and was happy withmy ULA kilt made of 1.1 oz silnylon. A bit slippery on a canoe seat but otherwise no complaints. Easy to put on and take off in a canoe compared to pants. Breathes much better. Stuffs to the size of a Cliff bar and weighs 3 oz.. Costs $30. I won't be going back to rain pants soon. Especially true if you wet foot.
SevenofNine	06/16/2012 09:23PM I'm quite happy with my REI pants. Of course they will have different designs not but basically I looked of for a tough pant with side zippers that go way past your knee so I don't have to take my shoes off to get them on.

kanoes	06/16/2012 08:46PM i found a jacket im happy with, now i need to find pants. i tried the full zip precips and didnt like them at all. anyone use north face ventures? other suggestions for me to consider? must be breathable. price point is under a hun.
