Hey Missmolly!
Had a few minutes at work so I thought that I would head back here and see what was new....
Looking forward to the trip....my toe is about to lose its nail :(
It still doesn't bend at the joint but I really don't believe that it will be any real obstacle...feeling good!!!!
For others following the post...I dropped a 60 lb barn beam on my toe. I affectionately refer to it as my "zombie toe".

Ahhh the sleigh ride...and then the scary part. "

That is scary! Looks like an opportunity to lose a finger or two :-)

Those sound like great adventures.

I will be waiting for the sleigh ride stories!!

And the lake-on-an-island stories... cool beans. Happy paddling!

Sounded like a place somebody talked about on Isle Royale, although I probably remember the details a little vaguely. And when you said cross it, that didn't necessarily mean paddle ;). I'm sure it will be a great trip - the fish there will probably just jump in your canoe.

I liked the Rockstar. It seemd versatile - maneuverable, tracked pretty well, stable, although I did not have any real strong winds to contend with.

quote boonie: "You have three nice trips planned, missmolly. Enjoy them.

I'm guessing the second trip is to Isle Royale? A woman I know went backpacking on Isle Royale and circumnavigated it. She loved the place.

I think you'll like the Rockstar - I paddled one last fall for the first time. It should be good to fish out of.

We'll all be looking forward to the trip reports. :)"

No, not Isle Royale. Just some lakes in Canada. I'm not brave enough to cross a lake as big as Superior! Yeah, I'm excited about the Rockstar. I'm also excited to have met three of you bwca folks in a ten-day stretch. Actually, I've met two of you and will meet the third on Saturday. I'm just happening to be working in the three towns of these three folks.

Gonna go up north three times this summer:

Trip One: A solo in my new Rockstar. I wanna paddle that boat! Probably gonna fish a string of lakes that I somewhat know, focusing on bass and trolling for pike as I explore. It's my first date with this handsome boat!

Trip Two: Gonna go with a woman I met at this website. We're gonna cross a big lake, walk a quarter mile through the woods (There probably won't be a portage trail.), paddle across a pond, portage again, paddle a long, skinny lake, portage again, and then reach a nameless lake with 19 islands and lots of bays and straits. It has a big island in the middle and that island has a lake in the middle of it. It's too windy and freckled with islands for a float plane to land and I hope it's as sweet and isolated as it looks from space. There are other unnamed lakes that surround it and we'll likely fish and explore eight or nine lakes on this trip. I met the woman last week and she's sturdy. She had just broken her toe, but we still walked many miles and talked and she never complained. A perfect partner!

Trip Three: Gonna go with another writer. He writes about the outdoors and seems a steady, sturdy fellow, so he should be a good companion too. We're gonna fish about half a dozen lakes and target muskies and bass. A musky in a canoe is the Ontario equivalent of a Nantucket sleigh ride.

For the summer of 2013, I'm talking to a fellow about two weeks in Woodland Caribou. It'll be my first paddle in a park and I'm excited, since that park only sees about 600 paddlers a year.
