quote Zulu: "I wish I could have experienced smelting before their numbers crashed. When was the best time 1960's 70's? People I talked to said it was a great time."
Well, it had its moments. However, my father insisted we fill one or sometimes two, 55 gallon drums, and none of ours ever ended up as fertilizer in the garden. We ate every one.
The only way I've ever really liked them is smoked. They crisp up like a potato chip, and we'd eat them as snack food.

Are the smelt runs any good anymore? Thought their numbers were way down since the lake trout had their resurgence.

Knife River is so low - smelters can't swing a dip net.
Hmong will be sad.
