I understand your reluctance. Sorry it's not available without signing in. Maybe someone here knows a way. Anyway, the page is being added to daily. Some fun, old pics. Take care.

I don't know if you must be a FB member to access this FB page. I just Googled "Historic Basswood BWCA" and the FB page to which I refer came up first in the list. The page's founder is posting pics there daily and the membership is growing so you might find it worthwhile to visit it.

techno not me is not on Facebook and really not interested in joining. Is this information available to us old timers in another format? Thanks.
schweady 02/27/2012 12:25PM
Love to see the info, but I know nothing about this face book thing of which you speak.

No kidding. My work FB page sometimes won't come up for me if I use the search. And I know I'm spelling it right! ;-)

I couldn't find it on FB. Sometimes FB search is funky so I will try again later...

Yes, and for us oldtimers, it doesn't seem that long ago.

Thanks for the link to Historic Basswood sites burntsider. It is very interesting. I am glad someone is keeping the history of the area alive. I liked the photo of that double decker houseboat.

The 2006 Ely Summer Times had a great feature on historic Basswood Lake including photos and a map naming and identifying where all the resorts used to be.

Basswood Lake and the resorters and fishing guides that worked there are often featured on the radio show "End of the road ventures" on WELY too. It is very interesting listening to the people recall what life was like for them back then.
