It's amazing how similar our lunches and breakfasts are.

I used pita pockets with P & J last year and it was great. You can buy round tupperware that is the same size as the pita bread and will keep them good for a week.

You can see the red lid in this pic. We also take the jelly in the plastic squeeze bottles they come in.

We have a cheese and summer sausage sandwich for lunch everyday. Bring along a water bottle and GORP and granola bars to snack on during the day and at lunch and a few beefsticks.

Interesting approach with the wax paper between tortillas. I had always just packed extra so when they fused together you could just peel a couple off together and use them as one. I'll have to try that approach this year.

I usually try and make lunch as easy and effortless as possible. Since we are usually base camping, we will be fishing in the AM and maybe taking a break or doing some exploring as the day goes on.

I have used the Tuna packets with good success, they do tend to weigh a bit if you are going in a larger group.

I like to use the snack sized ziplock baggies for treats like Peanut and regular M&M's, starburst or mixed nuts. I'll bring fun zided candy bars for the first couple of days, I usually freeze them along with my cold pack and usually they don't melt.

Nothing better than having Fish for breakfast lunch and dinner. Any time we can catch some good fish we usually try to put it to a tasty use.

If we are traveling I try and stick with granola bars and GORP. I have experimented with different varieties of Gorp. I like to use dried fruits and a variety of nuts. Makes the trip more interesting.

summer sausage and cheese in pita pockets, tuna / chicken (the ones that come in bags) with mayo from a bottle in pita pockets, gorp and granola bars. All pretty easy lunch that doesn't require a lot of work, we usually travel and fish a lot, not really worth heating anything up in the middle of the day.

We substituted tortillas & Rye Crisp instead of bread for sandwiches,
works remarkabley well! Even peanutbutter & Jelly on corn tortillas is quite good. Saves a lot of pack space for a "Bread Box".

"classic" recipe is 1/3 each ingredient(adding M & M's )by volume, but there are about a million choices. I think there is a thread on here, too lazy to search, with multiple choices. I love this mix with a litle extra types of fruit in it.

Generally I'm looking to make camp about 2:00, so we may grab a granola bar or some GORP as we travel. Once we reach our site for the night we'll pitch a tarp (if the weather calls for it) and then settle in to a lesurely lunch.

We do the smorgasbord approach. We just open the lunch bag and people just make what they want. We carry pretty much the types of things everyone else has already mentioned.

I do like to heat some water, then we have it for tea, cup-o-soup, or whatever. It can always be used to rinse whatever eating ware was used or to do a quick face-washing.

Then after we have relaxed a bit and been fed, we tackle setting up camp and doing the chores.

It is interesting reading the thread. Lunch can be very different depending if you're a base camper, or a traveler, or a fisherman, etc.

What I have learned to do with lunch is this... I take a vacum sealer and a roll of bags that is about 8 inches wide and then seal it on one end and them down the middle until I have two sacks about 4 inches wide and 6 inches tall. I then take a piece of Summer Sausage the size I want for lunch and a piece of cheese and place each one in one side of the bag and them vacumn seal it as close to the meat and cheese as I can, and presto you have a vacumn seal meat and cheese lunch that is easy to carry and easy to pack into a trash bag. It does get a bit oily in the bags but at least it is out of the meat and cheese!! Now the crackers that make it complete... that's another story!

I normally take a small, soft lunchbox cooler with one of those frozen blue ice packs. I keep the baby carrots, apples and cheese in this small cooler.

They have had them at the store. Single serve puddings that were in a tube. Cut open one end and squeeze the pudding into your mouth. Not sure how popular they are so maybe no all stores carry them. Last year I found them at Cub in the Twin Cities. I have been taking them for 4-5 years now. Easier to pack and eat then the little pudding cups.

What's the cheese of choice? I've used cheddar wrapped in paper towels, and the towels turned 'construction barrel' orange. It was tasty, but made me wonder if there was something better.

Bogs, thanks for the tip on the wax paper. Last time our tortillas were smashed together to form one 3 inch thick blob.

Arkansas Man and I are thinking together on this. I can almost ditto everything he said except chicken in a pouch instead of tuna. If I have any left, I'll have some deer sticks instead of summer sausage.

Summer Sausage, cheese and crackers, a homemade granola bar, and wash it all down with Raspberry or peach tea! Or Tuna in a pouch, relish, mayo, and a pita and the granola bar or GORP, and my drink of choice!

I do flour tortillas with tuna mixed with relish and mayo or peanut butter. (not together lol)

I repack tortillas and seperate them by a piece of wax paper so they do not stick togther. Totillas last and do not smash in a pack like bread, buns or bagels. I used to do pita's but sometimes they would fuse together after a couple of days. For me flour tortilla's are the way to go.

I usually have snacks during the day of jerky or gorp.

With that I have water with a crystal lite or lipton green tea mix and some gorp, granols bars or even some fun size chocolate bars in spring or fall when they won't melt. I also have brought pudding tubes for a sweet quick energy boost.

sausage, jerky, or cheese, crackers, trailmix, dried fruit and some sort of sweet- those spearmint leaves are popular,as are lemon drops. Basically, something we can eat fairly fast while traveling to keep the young 'uns from rioting before dinner.

I guess snacks have taken over what was once lunch with our group. Then some feel the need to nap. Some on the shores of a glistening lake, others in the confines of a stuffy bugless tent. Here's a guy from our group in his favorite afternoon habitat.

We usually have any of the following: pbj on bagels or tortillas, gorp, granola bars, cheese, sausage, and crackers, and hard candy. I usually travel with hs students, so quantity and frequency is important.

we generally dont eat a true lunch.

...wake up...coffee....go fishing for a few hours...paddle back and cook a big breakfast...dishes...tidy camp...maybe get some firewood...pack some granola bars, gorp, gatoraid.....go fishing for a number of hours...paddle back...cook dinner...dishes...fish twilight...paddle home...happy hour(s)and a nice fire.

repeat as neccessary...

Some type of sandwich and cookies. I look for quick and easy. The first day I am looking to make some distance so I don't want to spend a lot of time at lunch.

Our lunch is our big meal of the day, we usually are on the water till dark so we will eat our dinner for lunch and eat something easy for dinner that way there is no cooking and major clean up in the dark.
Last year's new rule was only keep fish from the morning till lunch that way.... we clean and cook the fish for lunch and we don't have to worry about cleaning fish in the dark while Lora swats mosquito's away from my head.

The last couple of trips I've been on we had a lunch of venison sausage on turkey buns on the way in. Quick and easy.

I'm with you on the afternoon snooze. Here's a member of our party catching a little midday nap up on Agnes a couple years ago. They look so peaceful when they're sleeping, don't they?

What do must of you do for lunches. I find it nice to stop at a campsite and eat for an hour lay in the sun and maybe snooze for a bit. But I don't want to have to boil water or anything like that. But I want something that will stick with you until the evening meal that can be late sometimes. I thank you in advance for the help.
